Amir Khan and the noise that comes out of his mouth.

CommentaryIconAmir Khan wants to fight Floyd Mayweather.  He’s been saying this for a while.  He also joins a long list of fighters who want to win the Floyd Mayweather lottery.  Any fighter’s biggest pay day would be a fight with the undefeated Mayweather.  Does he deserve a shot?  Would Mayweather fight him?

Most of Amir Khan’s opponents have very good records.  He has fought very good fighters. In fact, his last four opponents since his TKO loss to Danny Garcia have a record of 118 total wins and 14 total losses.  Pretty impressive, right?

Not so fast.  Carlos Molina fought no one and wasn’t much of a threat in terms of punching power.  Julio Diaz had been stopped 5 times prior to his fight with Khan and was considered on the downside of his career.   Luis Collazo is not in the current top ten for welterweights.  However, a win against Devon Alexander this past weekend is a very good win, though not the blow out some have made it out to be.  The fight was close, but I felt Khan won.

Amir Khan claims his speed would frustrate Mayweather.  Mayweather has seen that before and dealt with it accordingly.  Khan claims he is more of a threat than Pacquiao…  That is absurd. Khan doesn’t do anything special or different than the rest.  Manny Pacquiao on the other hand is very unorthodox and can be unpredictable.  That’s why Floyd Mayweather is avoiding Manny Pacquiao (for the most part).

KhanHitI don’t think Khan has earned a shot at Mayweather, but if history tells us anything, it tells us that Mayweather chooses opponents that he knows he’ll beat.  Both Khan and Mayweather are Showtime fighters, both are with Al Haymon, and Khan is not much of a threat.  I expect Mayweather to choose Khan over Pacquiao as his next opponent.
