Heavyweight Michael Sprott is from Reading, Berkshire, United Kingdom. He turned pro in late 1996.    Anyone who follows boxing, especially the boxing scene in Europe, knows of Michael Sprott.  Sprott has fought most of his opponents the same way; straight ahead.  He is having a busy 2010 and recently defeated Matt Skelton by split decision to win the "Prizefighter" tournament.

I haven't been able to find much about your amateur career.  How long did you compete in the amateurs and have you won any major tournaments?

I have about 60 amateur fights winning 50. 4 times home counties champion, runner up in the ABAs finals. I got bronze in the qualify in Canada for the Olympic trials. I got bronze again in the Liverpool multi nation to get in the Olympic trials again represented St. Vincent in both trials.

What made you decide to turn professional or was that the goal from the very beginning?

What made me turn professional, I wanted to turn pro once I had enough amateur experience and I got robbed of plenty of decisions in my amateur championships days.  I wanted to turn pro after the Liverpool muti nations. My goal is to be world champion from the day I walked in the gym at the age of 13.

When I watch your fights, I see a fighter with plenty of heart.  You never quit, no matter how bad things get in the ring.  Other than your tremendous fighting spirit, what do you feel is your best asset?

My best asset is my determination, and big heartland guts.

You fought fiercely against Audley Harrison in the rematch.  Any chance you'll face him for a third?

Well there may be a chance to fight him again. It's one a piece.  I am sure the British and fans around the world who follow boxing would love to see that a third meeting.

What training habits did you have that you feel would be beneficial to an athlete starting out in the sport?

Training habits when I first started,  I ran a lot which made it easier, circuit training, and work a lot on the basic stuff.  I made sure everything came off the jab .

BOXING 4 FREE is all about the science of boxing, both technique and training.  What is a typical day in gym for Michael Sprott like?

In the morning I do 3, 6 or a 8 mile run depending on how many rounds I am boxing, then later on I go to the gym and do shadow boxing, bag work, pad work, or sparring, then 2000 metres rowing, circuit training, followed by ab work, followed by warm down and stretch.
