BBB2011 Boxing Wish List

by Andrew Schweitzer

XmasTree     It's that time of year, snow is falling everywhere (Take that, global warming/climate change!), people are shopping more and more and Christmas music is playing so much that it makes me want to cut off my ears.

FruitCake     And for most parents, it means that it's time to go over the 'Wish List' that their children make up and either laugh or gasp at what their children ask for. This year, I've decided to do something different and create a boxing wish list; stuff that I want to see happen in 2011. So, grab the eggnog and fruit cake and enjoy my list

Boxing Wish List 2011

- Retirement for Roy Jones Jr, Shane Mosley, Jeff Lacy and Bernard Hopkins: Just walk away, show up ringside for some fights and wait for the Hall of Fame to call. Well, except for you, Jeff.

- A heavyweight title fight between Tomasz Adamek and Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko:Bring one of the brothers to New Jersey and you'll have a sold out stadium. Plus, let's not forget that these three are not getting any younger, especially Vitali.

- A big fight to take place in Las Vegas the weekend of January 15th: I'll be in Vegas that weekend so naturally...

- Advertising for fights where I WILL SEE THEM!!!: You'd be surprised how many newspapers I saw this last week with nearly full page advertisements for the latest UFC card. Yes, I know that mostly it was because George St-Pierre is Canadian, but it doesn't matter. Hype this beyond the HBO or Showtime behind-the-scenes show.

- A good bounce back for Paul Williams: The man is one of my favourite fighters in the sport today, so I hope he can come back and remind us why he's called The Punisher.

- A full recovery for Kelly Pavlik: I think we've seen the last of him as a champion but he's still an entertaining fighter.

- People to learn how to spell Emanuel Steward's name:It's not "Emmanuel Steward", "E-manual Stooart" or "Emanuell Stewart". I hope that people on Internet forums as well as proofreaders at Ring Magazine can correct this embarrassing blunder.

- Manny Pacquiao to have a title fight with no catch-weight: Yes, Freddie Roach, I know Manny has done this twice but at the same time, if you're going to entertain the the possibility that your star pupil might fight Sergio Martinez, don't tell us how it has to be at 147. Sergio is the middleweight champion and can also fight at junior-middleweight. Don't make him sacrifice 13 pounds just so Manny can win another title he won't defend.

- Top Rank and Golden Boy Stop Acting Like High School Girls: Ugh, where do I start with this. It probably started with the claim that Pacquiao was on steroids which originated from the great philosopher Floyd Mayweather Sr. and was quickly repeated by several who felt embarrassed to lose to someone who once fought at flyweight. Since Oscar de la Hoya was one of those, he quickly echoed those sentiments, lawsuits were threatened and not since Pacquiao/Hatton have the two rivals co-promoted a bout together which hurts the sport. For the love of god, just man up and stop being so petty.

- Keep Carl Froch's Girlfriend Away From a Microphone During His Next Fight:I'm all for showing support during a fight but jeez, it was really distracting from the clinic Froch was putting on Abraham. Still, a few close-ups of her between rounds is most welcome.

- Have Floyd Mayweather Make News About His Next Fight... Not Court Date: Yeah, I don't think I need to go any further with this one. Floyd, you'd think with all the money you claim to have laying around your home that you could just reach a settlement.

- Have David Lemieux Step Up: I'm sure his trainer Russ Anber wants to bring his protege along carefully but at the same time, beating up club fighters and old men will only carry this Canadian kid so far. A fight with Julio Cesar Chavez or Andy Lee would be really interesting.
