My father brought over a bunch of old VHS tapes yesterday. Some were mine and in those were my recordings of fights from the 1990s. There were two fighters that I followed extremely closely in that decade and I made it a point to record their fights whenever they were on live television. Marco Antonio Barrera and Danny Romero. I always told anyone interested in getting into the sport that you should watch Romero, because he does the basics better than most. Tight defense, hands up, solid jab, cuts off the ring… Then there was his power. When he fought at junior bantamweight, his opponents almost never went the full distance. He could crunch!
So I uploaded a fight of his from 1998. Here he is fighting Joe Manzano at junior featherweight.
