Boxing Training help. 1 Year, 6 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello everyone on this site, I'm new here and I'm going to start things off with this thread.

The main point of this is to have all of you give me tips to help me become a better boxer. Every day I workout in my basement. My workouts include: Pull-ups, Push-ups, Bicep Curls, Squats, some ab workout, and then throwing some punches around at the bag for a while. I live about a 15 minute walk from the school, so I will start going down there and running on the track. My question is what else can I do to help my boxing?

Additional Info: I can't afford to go to the Gym or get lessons, So I have to stick to other activities I can do on my own. Also none of my friends box. The only other sport I enjoy besides boxing is tennis, so that's my biggest workout is hitting down at the courts with friends.

Like many sports, you should be refining your technique. Straighten your jabs & cross, shorten your hooks, take shorter steps when moving around etc.. As your shadowbox, remember that. As for your training, you're doing all the right things. When you hit the track, one day work on distance, another day work on speed like sprints: sets of 100 meters, 200 meters, sets of 50 meters to improve your explosiveness (plyometrics).

If you have an old bicycle tire tube laying around, you can come up with a training aid: cut it so it becomes a resistance band.

Alright thanks man, I'll work on that when I'm down there, while listening to the "Rocky Theme Song" on my iPod hahaha.

if you really want to improve, you need to go to a gym where you can spar and have instruction. Did you find out how much lessons cost? If you did and you can't afford, did you try to explain that to the coach? Most will be helpful- good luck!

Sounds like you were off to a very good start

I see all the basic exercises there but no mention of jumping rope or burpees...

both are invaluable

Where are you at in your training since your post?

We would love an update!
