Interview: Chevelle Hallback

ChevelleThumbOn August 22, 2014, at the St. Pete Times Forum, Tampa, Florida, Chevelle “Fists of Steel” Hallback will be fighting Victoria “La Reina de Guerra” Cisneros in a 10-round bout for the vacant WBF welterweight title.  This will be a rematch for the two.  In their first bout, Hallback won the fight by a Split decision.  Chevelle has a career record of 29-8-2 (12 KO’s).  Let’s see what’s new with Chevelle:

Q  How would you rate your performance (1-10) against Dominga Olivo?
A  Lets see, from 1-10, I will rate myself an 8.  I came out throwing a little wild and allowed her to dictate the fight in the first round.  I started the 2nd round a little better, calmed down, and used my jab more.  The only reason I give myself an 8 because after being off for a long time and fighting ring rust, I was still able to get the knockout in the second round.

Q  Was Dominga a good gut check for you?
A  She was a tough girl.  I really did not think she was going to come at me the way she did. So yes, she was.  I was like this girl came to fight and not for just a payday.

Q  What did you learn from that fight?
A  Not matter what, keep your composer and remain relax.  Do not let them lure you into fighting their fight.

Q  Your trainer has stated, ” You fight like a man”.  Do you agree?
A  Hahahahaha…….I have heard that a lot.  I have seen some men fight and was like what are they doing?  I mean a lot of them “make love” in the ring more than they actually fight! hahahahaha…….there are good fighters and there are great fighters, no matter if you are a male or female.  I think I am a very good fighter working towards of being a great fighter.

Q  What’s a typical day of training like for you?
A  Running in the early AM, lifting weights in the afternoon, and in the boxing gym in the evening time for about 1 1/2 – 2 hours.

Q  After such a long career in boxing, what still fascinates you about the sport?
A  There is still more to accomplish……just knowing that I am paving the way for females fighters that are coming behind me to do the things that has never been done before, or has been said it can never be done.   Like fighting on HBO.

Q  What is your ultimate goal in boxing?
A  To fight on HBO!

Q  Your next fight is planned for 8/22.  Any opponent yet?
A  Yes, I am fighting Victoria Cisneros for the 147 pound World Boxing Federation(WBF) world title.

Q  What’s the best thing about being a boxer?
A  The best thing about being a boxer is that I can use my sport to motivate individuals on all level and aspect of life to follow their dreams and not to let anyone tell them what they can and can not do.

Q  What motivates you to continue to step into the ring?
A  Fighting on HBO, people who are counting on me to make that dream a reality, and also people who are counting against me saying it will never happen.

Q  At this time in your career, what’s most important to you: fame, money your
A  My legacy……that I did it…..if I can do it, so can anyone else.

Q  What advice would you give to someone wanting to box?
A  Boxers have to bleed sometimes so go into with all of your heart and not just half.

Q  Finish this sentence: I will retire when….
A  I have done all that I can do and I just can’t do anymore.
